When my baby turned 2 I took him for a helicopter ride adventure – one of my first article reviews. Shortly thereafter I realized one day that I want him to experience the sea for the first time, so I vowed to him to take him as soon as it’s financially possible. But by the time he turned about 3 and a half years old, life happened, and I went through some major grief and loss, it took some time to rebuild my life and then shortly after that I decided to start a business. Again, I promised him that as soon as my business becomes stable I will take him to see the sea. Then life happened some more, and he turned 5 years old and I realized that vow I made him has now become overdue.

If we make oaths we owe it to the people we made it to, to deliver, especially our children. Many people will come with the argument that a toddler won’t remember. But after delivering on my promise, I can guarantee anyone, that he will never forget that I kept my promise.

What keeping my promise did for our relationship?

1. It built trust between us.

2. It made me credible that He can count on my word.

3. It builds hope that eventually if we don’t give up we will get our dream.

4. It makes him have faith that good things can happen.

The adventure was another one for the books. We flew down to Durban with Mango airlines. We had amazing seats, the staff’s service is exceptional, and the prices are fair. They also support a few worthy causes- which I like. We stayed at the Belaire Hotel on the beach front, they serve breakfast with a spectacular view and their room service is next level detailed and top quality. My son loved the sea, he referred to it as a giant sandpit. In addition to seeing the sea, I also took him to Ushaka Marine World. We learned that male and female penguins can’t be distinguished by physical appearance, but through DNA tests only. The seals show was very entertaining and watching dolphins dancing in water was absolutely breath taking. My sons highlight of course was seeing sharks up close in the aquarium. We also visited the MiniTown to take a few fun pictures and went on a boat cruise that was very educational regarding the different types of boats in the harbor, how they are loaded and the water levels that help measure the weight and capacity of the shipping boats was very interesting to hear about.

By following through on my promise I got to enjoy it with him and I feel re-inspired and could not wait to start working again. Sometimes when we deliver on our promises it also holds advantages in it for ourselves.
