Why Knowledge is Free, But Training not:

We live in a technologically advanced era, with the aid of the internet and search engines like google and YouTube services. Knowledge is freely available and unlimited. We can buy almost any educational book via Amazon or Kindle. In our era we cannot complain that we don’t have knowledge and knowledge is power, so we all have unlimited power at our disposal.
But interestingly in-person training is not free, as a matter of fact, it has become more and more expensive to acquire an education. There are many reasons for this:
1. You pay for supplies like books etc.
2. You pay for the travel costs of the trainer.
3. You pay for Assessment and Moderation costs
4. You pay for the time of the trainer.
5. You pay for the venue (if the training is offsite)
6. As well as many hidden costs e.g. phone calls, marketing, internet usage, etc. of the Service Provider.
I believe apart from the above reason, why training isn’t free is because the facilitators, educators and training providers still need to operate and survive, as well as that they provide a very valuable service. They get paid to add value by giving a simplified perception of the knowledge they are offering. Thus, they get paid for their value and the way in which they impart knowledge. This is a very special talent or gift that they have.
For myself being a facilitator, life coach and motivational speaker, I had to ask myself the question. I know I have this talent or gift, but what in my gift makes me unique. And I believe it is my unique views on life, my resilient behaviour and my caring and compassionate nature. In other words, things that in other areas would make me weak or vulnerable e.g. being so caring in life causes people to use and abuse you. But in a classroom or coaching session, this is fundamental to help my clients grow.
