Just like children automatically make friends in group setting with another child who are the same or have things in common with them naturally. They just “Click” with their peer. Nobody told them to like the person they chose to like. It is almost built into each of us to naturally connect with people that attracts something in us. So, companies often hire people that have a value or trait that aligns with their companies’ culture. (without them necessarily intending to, since their first focus is to hire a person with the correct skill set)

If someone hired you, or you hired them. The chances are, even if after a few years you dislike each other, if you go dig deep as to why you hired, or they accepted there is a value or trait you have in common that pulled you to each other. Otherwise you would not have hired or accepted the job to begin with. In saying this often people don’t know or recognize why they get on better with someone or not. Only when both parties can tap into the underlying reason for the relationship can they work together to achieve and enhance a common goal. The partnership will only continue if both parties invests into making the common goal achievable for each other.

I personally saw that happy employees are often not productive employees and the reason why is that they have not bought into the company’s goal or value fully and they are already getting what they need, so there is no sense of urgency for them to help their company achieve its goal and that is because they don’t connect with the goal on a deep level. Where motivated employees may not feel happy ever day, but they buy into the common goal fully and take responsibility for their part in achieving the goal.

Happy Employees:

1. Is about doing their job

2. Is about making them successful

3. Requires personal commitment

Motivated Employees:

1. Is about doing their job above and beyond

2. Is about making them and the company successful

3. Requires mutual commitment
