I am a very busy but very happy and motivated person, I schedule and plan everything, even relaxation and recreation. I believe in having a good foundation for your body, soul and mind. Every day I take care of my body by exercising, drinking enough water and eating properly. I am mindful of what I watch and listen to. But recently I realized a crucial key to what helps me stay motivated. It is how I start my day. It is a process and it requires discipline, a few goals and determination.

One morning my 5 year old son woke up in a bad mood, crying over things he wants that he could not have so early in the morning. I talked him out of it by explaining to him that complaining and crying will only cause him to have a bad day (and spoil mine too), we did a mental attitude adjustment by listing things we do have and are grateful for and then affirming with words that we are going to have a great day- and guess what? Both of us did have a great day. If you want to be successful in life you first need to have a successful day and another and another. If you want to be and want to feel productive you need to start your day productive. This leads me to my list of things I do to have a positive and successful day:

1. Wake up early (I wake up at 5 am everyday- even on Sundays or rest days)

2. I make my coffee and post social media quotes or ads.

3. I read something uplifting and look at my dream board (You can also do prayers, meditation or listen to motivational podcasts or videos)

4. Next, I open all the curtains and make the bed (if you don’t make your bed trust me it plays in your subconscious and influences your self-esteem)

5. I pack away and DE-clutter as much as possible around my home (e.g. Laundry, toys, random paperwork lying around etc)

6. Next, I go through my day’s schedule and visualize how my day is going to go.

7. I take a shower, get dressed and make sure I look like I fit the role I am representing e.g. Mom clothes for mom things, corporate for meetings or smart casual for training sessions etc)

8. I get my son ready for his day.

9. We have breakfast and take all our supplements (we don’t skip this)

10. I take care of our pets.

11. I make sure to pack and load everything we need for the day into my car. (bags, lunches, water bottles, digital gadgets, laptops, dairy’s, pens, notebooks and presentation folders or things for my friends, clients or my sons’ friends etc)

12. I make sure I put things off like my hair straightener or stove etc.

13. We rush out the door (yes, it is important to rush, it gives you Adrenalin and energy)

14. I put something positive on the radio to listen to in the car

15. And finally, our day begins.

This is what the start of a proper and successful day looks like in my house. It includes planning, preparing, reflection and positive thoughts, energy producing tasks etc. in comparison to non-positive days where at least half of this list is neglected or forgotten. I would say doing more is not tiring or unnecessary but sets the tone for a good day. Even on non-work days I follow this routine but instead of rushing out the door, we may watch a little TV, do house chores or go to visit friends or other events.

What a bad day looks like:

1. Wake up at 6 or 7 (which in the city means we will be late for everything)

2. Shower and get ready as fast as possible

3. Skip coffee, breakfast and everything pertaining to reading, preparing or visualizing.

4. Forget the poor pets.

5. Forget to check anything

6. Rush out the door

7. Listen to anything without even realizing what we are listening to (no mindfulness)

8. Pray to make it on time and drive like a maniac with road rage in order to try and be on time.

I hope my sharing of our motivated days will help you see what you can add or remove from your morning routine in order to be more productive and successful. Everyday can be great if you start it the right way.
