Being spoiled meaning: “to diminish or destroy the value or quality of something or to prevent someone from enjoying something, turn something unfit for enjoyment, it harms character, it comes from excessive kindness or over eagerness.”

To summarize in my layman terms, spoiling someone or something is a form of stealing that seems kind and loving. We are all a little guilty of becoming spoiled, when we are too content with life, when we forget to be truly grateful for our many blessings. When we forget to appreciate the things we once prayed for. When we start to complain about the very things we could not live without, it is complaining and dissatisfaction that we get from time to time because we are human. I realized both myself and my child have become spoiled when we where on holiday. Although we seemed to have the best of everything, we made very little time to truly enjoy each moment. We were struggling to live in the present moment, constantly chasing the next thrill. As soon as I realized what was going on, I decided to do something about it.

Fortunately, I stumbled upon a made-up word that I like, Fantastic-ate- “to make something seem fantastic.” When we allow ourselves to enjoy something in an almost childlike way, innocently, almost like we experience it for the first time is a way to make things fantastic again.

How do we re-fantasticate life:

· Random acts of kindness to others

· Realise that we may face many obstacles in life, but bad times does not last. Nothing ever stays bad; the world is ours and life is what we make it.

· Decide to be grateful for everything.

· Start listing the things you are grateful for from the moment you realize that you are becoming numb or unappreciative.

· Write down all the things you think of, it makes it appear physical and thus more real, even if you don’t feel grateful.

· Try to feel the emotion of gratitude, slow down to enjoy each moment.

· Choose a routinely time to do this every day.

· Live in the present moment and try to enjoy the moment.

· Share your grateful emotions with the people around you, don’t be too cool to express excitement.

This was a lesson I re-learned that I just felt is so important that I had to write about it. The results of practicing gratitude combined with living in the present moment, just makes for a more exhilarated life and a lot more stories that we can share in our old age. It makes life more enjoyable and when the tough times do come, we have memories that we can turn into hope.
