Outer or Inner Beauty:

We all want to say we like people for who they are on the inside, not for how they look. But there is often a preference to people who are more attractive or acceptable looking than people who are not so physically attractive. I think that’s why we always work so hard to be physically attractive and then hope that other people will like us for who we are on the inside. We forget that we must work harder on our inner beauty than our outward appearance.
I had a few what I jokingly call “Facebook Relationships” … where my relationships public image was more important than the actual relationship. I even posted a picture of my “birthday coffee- in- bed- from -my- guy” once, that was completely fake. I made that coffee myself. In an opposing light, there are times in my life when I don’t focus so much on my outer appearance or my image, I focus on my inner beauty and on helping other people. During these times I found that more people tell me how good I look, or I even caught a few admirers staring at me. And I don’t necessarily feel or think I’m that great looking, it’s just that it became a realization to me that my outward appearance seems to improve when I focus less on that and more on my inner beauty.
How do we become more beautiful?
1. Live in the present moment – focus your thoughts on the tasks at hand.
2. Listen carefully and observe carefully what other people are saying or doing.
3. Dress credibly and according to the assumed dress code.
4. Go the extra mile for yourself and others. Make them feel important and have self-respect.
5. Exercise regularly and drink lots of water and sleep enough.
6. Give sincere smiles, genuine smiles make us appear and feel more beautiful.
For me true beauty comes from within and I like people who are attractive by character rather than appearance only. Thus, I work on becoming inwardly beautiful because then I attract beautiful people. I don’t have one ugly friend. Kahlil Gibran said: “Beauty is not in the face, but in the light of the heart.”
