Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. How I see other people reveals a lot about myself. How they see and treat me shows me a lot about them. When someone is mean or disrespecting towards me, I often find they are hurt or angry because of something outside of me.

New-born babies can only see about 30-50cm far at birth. They feel and experience life on earth for the first time, with each new experience, synapses in the brain make specific connections. This continues to happen well into adulthood. As the synapses form in their brains and as they grow they can experience more and more. This is how our first perceptions of the world are formed. Each person’s perception is unique because we experience different things at different times. Our parents have a huge impact on our perception of the world. Their perceptions often start out to shape ours. As we go on through life more and more people share their perceptions with us, expanding to some extent our own.

As we make friends we choose what perceptions of our friends we want to have in our lives. We, therefore, become like the people we spend time with. I allow a lot of people and things to influence my perception. But I choose which perceptions have the biggest impact on me. Therefore, choosing the right spouse, schools, churches and community is so important. They help shape us and our unique perceptions.

We are born with a certain personality type or behavior pattern that gets shaped and influenced by our brains through our senses. The human soul has a depth that is almost unfathomable, our spirits are even bigger. Yes, I do believe we have both a soul and a spirit.

The Bible refers to our spirit-man, which is the part of ourselves that we can’t access without God. Christians give their lives to Jesus, our spirit-man gets joined to God through the Holy Spirit. This is an inseparable bond. God through the Holy Spirit becomes one with us. Our spirit-man influences our soul for as long as we live. We get access to our soul through our brains, particularly through our emotions, thoughts and subconscious and our body reflects this through our behavior or personality. It is what makes us unique and authentic. You and your perception of the world is 100% one of a kind. Therefore, you have a unique purpose and reason for existence. Most of us will never fully be aware of exactly the impact we have regarding our purpose.

Because we are so unique and perceive things uniquely, we experience conflict almost all the time. Therefore, communication is such an important part of our lives. The person that hurts you have a unique perception as well and can ultimately not fully explain their behavior to you. Because we live in similar circumstances to the people around us, we face similar problems. That’s why we will find that we are unique, but our problems are the same, we just see our problems as unique because we have a unique perception of the world.
