The saying goes: “What goes up, must come down.” I noticed that I felt bored after an achievement or victory. There’s a strange emotional anti-climax after achieving a goal. I want to be content with the “down” stages in my goal setting. But the question was how?
Mr James Rice, from the GEC, advised that you should prepare yourself mentally. It is normal and natural to have these feelings, after pursuing a goal for a long time. Feelings come from thoughts. Try and determine what thoughts are leading to these emotions. We should differentiate between gratefulness (which we should always be) and be gratefully discontent- which is also good to be because we are born to live our lives fully. We are created in the image of God and that image isn’t minor. We should always be discontent in the sense to wanting and believing that we can grow more.
Tips I found on being content:
• Be Grateful.
• Stop negative thoughts.
• Look for the small things that you enjoy.
• Love and respect yourself.
• Love and respect other people.
• Think positively.
The Little Guide to Contentedness: zen habits
I noticed that I need people to recognise my adventure’s, excitements, accomplishments. I look to certain people for their recognition and it is not their responsibility to give me recognition. They do it because they love me, but I am not allowed to continue using them to fulfil this need. I am going to self-actualise by learning how to celebrate victories on my own, but again my question was how?
Mr James Rice says we should understand that we are recognised by God, He made us who we are and to accomplish what we do. He celebrates us; therefore, we don’t need public recognition or others to give us attention.
It is my renewed belief that we have a purpose, are created to live a life of purpose. Therefore, it means there is a creator. The emotion of grateful discontent only exists because we are created for a higher purpose than mere existence. We should acknowledge and glorify God in everything we do.
Reward Tips from https://medium.com/@Khandee/5-unconventional-ways-to-celebrate-small-wins-you-wont-enjoy-success-without-this-4500d8df5824
· Create your own “Rewards” Jar to revisit your small achievements later.
· Journal what you achieved each day.
· Reward yourself with something you enjoy after achieving a goal. The e.g. movie, beauty treatments etc.
· Turn your usual routine events into celebratory events.
· Reward yourself with time to spend on other tasks you don’t have time for while chasing your goal.
So, for my fellow thrill seekers, I want to challenge you on your amelioration journey by asking you to start practising keeping your thrills to yourself. (well the healthy ones, the un healthy thrills... go get help man) And keep improving yourself while not necessarily sharing it publicly, because I believe that you will find grateful discontent and ultimate happiness. Then your proving to yourself that your achievements are not dependant on people’s opinion of you. You will not be pleasing others but focussing on pleasing God and yourself. You will learn to really become your own mentor. (We need mentors for their knowledge and their recognition of our efforts)
📷If you do need expert knowledge on your amelioration journey. Contact Mr James Rice from the GEC for the best knowledge in coaching and growing... and because they love people they will also add the recognition at no extra costs.
